Edward Layland Baker

 

 

Seneca – Edward Layland Baker, 92, 1460 S. Walnut Street, passed away Saturday, October 3rd, 2020. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Faye Parker Baker.

 

Layland was a retired agent from Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company, and was a life-long member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He was a faithful in service to his Lord, he was greatly loved and respected by the many who knew him, and the vegetable garden he tended each summer was always amazing.

 

Layland is survived by son, Ken Baker (Diana) and grandchildren, Katie, Allie, and Andrew; daughter, Jan Baker (Chuck Munt); grandson, Joshua Bridges (Bethany) and great-grandchildren, Isaac, Philip, and Lydia; sister, Lois Marcengill; and numerous other relatives.

 

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents Edward Cranford Baker and Terella Walters Baker; daughter, Lynn Dalton Bridges; four sisters, Eva Nell Sheriff, Eunice Dyess, Mozell Metcalf and Lorene Sheriff; two brothers, Freeman and Jackson Baker.

 

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Lila Doyle for the way in which they loved and cared for Layland, In particular, they wish to thank Richard, Kim and Sandy.

 

A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Monday, October 5th, 2020 at Hopewell Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends from 1-2 prior at the church.  A private burial will follow in the church cemetery.
