Duke extends voluntary severance chance to certain workers

A spokesman for Duke Energy says that, in 2018, the utility offered voluntary severance to certain nuclear workers as well as to workers in some other areas of the company. Ryan Mosier, Duke spokesman, says, “While most of the reductions were achieved through voluntary severances, there were some involuntary severances.” A speaker during last night’s Oconee Delegation meeting claimed that Duke had laid off 200 employees in Oconee County.” But Mosier said today, “None of the job cuts in nuclear impact the safety and reliability of our nuclear plants. Our priority every day is to safely operate our power plants, while protecting the health and safety of the public and our employees. This is a responsibility we will never compromise.”
