Duke details new Clemson projects

Duke Energy plans to meet future energy growth in Clemson and surrounding area with a new substation and a re-built transmission line. Details from the electric utility today call for the Death Valley substation to be built on the eastern side of university property near Pendleton Road and highway 76. That’s the area closest to the load center where electricity demand is the greatest. As part of the work, a 1.2 mile portion of double-circuit, 44-kilo-volt transmission line will be re-built between 550 Old Greenville Highway and Rock Creek Road to meet standards for 100-kV reliability. A temporary line is to be constructed, existing 90-foot wood H-frame poles removed, and permanent 90-foot steep monopoles installed. The tap line is being installed to connect the re-built line to the existing Summey Street substation near old Greenville Highway.
