Duke assessment numbers to impact the schools the most

Those new Duke tax assessment numbers from Columbia are going to impact Oconee public schools by nearly $900 thousand. It’s a concern because the county trustees will have to find another avenue to square expenses with revenues. Jerry Lee, the chairman, estimates that a tax increase would fall short of 1.5 mills, but he mentions two other possibilities. The trustees hold their regular September meeting tonight. Those other possibilities are cutting the already approved budget or dipping into the fund balance, which is sort of a rainy day account, or both. Our interview with Lee airs today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.
