Drumbeat roll for Census 2020

Voices rang out last night at two municipal council meetings in Oconee of the importance for all to fill out this year’s Census forms. What you tell the federal government about yourself can help your town, county, and state receive their proportionate federal assistance. At West Union, Mayor Linda Oliver digressed from the word “whereas” in her town’s proclamation to stress that what you tell about yourself will be kept confidential by the federal government over your expected lifetime. Even if you house an illegal person in your home, according to the mayor, you are promised confidentiality. As one Census representative said in Walhalla recently, the government wants to know where people are  living April 1. At Seneca City Hall, Census enumerator Monica Ellis White spoke on the importance of a complete count.
