Drowning after kayak overturns

The body of a 26-year old Pennsylvanian was recovered from Lake Hartwell around noon on Saturday, hours after a kayak flipped, and he failed to re-surface.  Oconee Coroner Karl Addis ruled drowning in the death of Kellen Jerome Mackey of New Brighton near Pittsburgh.  The search scene was the Cartee Road in the Martin Creek part of the lake.  Around 2:15 Saturday morning, Oconee 9-1-1 was alerted to the report of a person missing and presumed drowned.  Mackey had been part of a local wedding party.  The coroner said he had been told that Mackey could not swim and, at the time, was not wearing a floatation device.
