Dr. William Lake (Bill) Reams

Dr. William Lake (Bill) Reames, 89, retired Baptist minister of Charlotte NC, passed and went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2022.

He is survived by his wife Frances Horne Reames, sons – Douglas, William and Jonathan, daughter – Jennifer Reames Wilkinson, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. And by his sister Frances King of Easley SC and brother James of Springfield VA.

Bill was born on February 14, 1933 in Johnston, SC the son of Eloise Pou Reames and Benjamin Lake Reames. In preparation for his calling, he acquired a Bachelor’s degree from Furman University, and Master’s and Doctor’s degrees from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest NC. Bill served as pastor for: Mt. Gallagher Baptist in Ware Shoals SC, Westminster Baptist in Westminster SC, Northgate Baptist in Greenville SC, and the First Baptist Church of Orangeburg SC. Bill was masterful at delivering sermons from the pulpit, and took his job as spiritual leader and comforter seriously. He was adored and admired by many. He never knew a stranger.

After retiring from the ministry, Bill continued to serve, counsel and protect others – members of his ecclesiastical profession – as an employee of Presbyterian Minister’s Fund.

At the time of his passing, he was a member of Providence Baptist church in Charlotte, NC.

Bill was a devoted husband of 64 years to his loving wife Frances. Together they raised four children. He was a joyful and active grandfather who loved every moment spent with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Marion and Ray, and his sister Sandra.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Mount of Olives Cemetery, 712 Mims Avenue in Johnston SC, where he will be laid to rest next to his parents.

The Family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
