Doug Teague

Seneca– On June 8, 2022, Coach Doug Teague completed a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease without a complaint according to the philosophy of coaching – never quit and don’t give up.

Born in Wilkes County, NC, Doug was the son of the late Robert Reginald Teague, Sr., and Estelle Yates Teague.  Doug was a teacher, coach, and administrator with Westminster High School and West Oak High School for thirty years until his retirement and he was of the Baptist Faith.  His love and interest were too many to enumerate, but his greatest pride was being a father and grandfather.  Loyalty to friends and a genuine interest in each player and student goes without saying.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Evelyn Cox Teague; son, Dr. Leighton “Leigh” Douglas Teague, Jr. (Kristina Perone) of Greenville; brothers, Robert Reginald Teague, Jr. and Jeffrey Thomas Teague of Wilkes County, NC; sister, Carolyn T. Anderson of Wilkes County, NC; grandchildren, Savannah James (S.J.) Teague and Leighton Douglas Teague, III.

In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his sisters, Bobby T. Smith and Elizabeth T. Elledge.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Wilkes County, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Doug’s memory may be made to Parkinson Research Foundation, 5969 Cattleridge Blvd, Ste 100, Sarasota, FL 34232. A message of condolence may be written to the family by visiting www.sandiferfuneralhome.com.
