Dorothy Snelgrove

Seneca – Dorothy “Dottie” June Gibson Snelgrove, 64, wife of Gary Ralph Snelgrove, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, after a prolonged battle with a respiratory condition.  She was surrounded by family who loved her and held her as she passed.

Born in Oconee County, South Carolina, Dottie was the daughter of the late Isaac Sylvester Gibson and Annie Elizabeth Hoxit Gibson of Richland.

Dottie and her husband raised their children while working full-time jobs. Dottie was beloved by her coworkers who kept in touch long after her health declined such that she was no longer able to work. Dottie continued to manage her household, cook delicious meals for her family, and maintain a beautiful home despite declining health.  She continued to be there for her family, attending every graduation and many sporting events to support her grandson.

Dottie loved her family and was passionate about bringing everyone together at the holidays. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday.  She enjoyed collecting pig memorabilia, and her walls were filled with photographs of her family.

She taught her children integrity and compassion, giving them the confidence necessary to pursue life on their own. She lived a beautiful, dignified life. Right up until the end, she was offering comfort and solace while asking little in return.

Dottie is survived by her husband: Gary, of Richland; sons: Stanley (Petrovia) of Seneca and Jason of New Orleans; grandson: Bo (Liz) of Seneca; honorary grandchildren: Taylor, Hunter, and Kaylyn of Westminster and Austin, Haley, and Emily of Seneca; and sisters: Lula Bell Rogers of Westminster and Edna Eller of Richland.

In addition to her parents, Dottie is preceded in passing by her sisters: Lucille Gibson and Barbara Gibson; and her brothers: Johnny Gibson, Ernest Gibson, Charlie Gibson, and Bill Gibson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Sandifer Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 28, at 11:00 am.
