Donation is a pleasant surprise for Oconee libraries

The director of Oconee’s public libraries, Blair Hinson, had been led to believe to anticipate a financial donation from an estate. But he was pleasantly surprised by the amount. The announcement of a $27 thousand dollar donation came during a meeting this week of the county library trustees. According to Hinson, the thinking is to take the $27 thousand, combine it with a previous larger donation, to create new space or enhance existing space especially for children’s services. Hinson is well aware that library use in the early 21st century is changing and the county system wants to ensure that a trip to a library can be a lot more fun than simply picking up a book and checking it out.
