Don Mize, a likely candidate for county council

A longtime Duke Energy worker, Don Mize, says he’s giving serious thought to running for Oconee County Council District 3—the seat that Paul Cain is giving up when his term expires at the end of the year.  Mize, a resident of the Perkins Creek Road, is a conservative Republican annoyed by what’s happening nationally.  He is one of the longest Duke workers at the Oconee Nuclear Station, having begun his career in the late 1970s, only a few years after the plant’s three reactors went online.  Mize took advantage of a nuclear engineering course offered by Tri-County Tech in 1975 which led to his attaining a nuclear reactor license.  He’s held a number of positions in the field, retired in 2016, but accepted a call back to work a year later.  Questioned as to which side of the council divide that he might fall on, Mize said his votes will be based on an independent judgment and a conviction that he would be doing the right thing.
