Doctor sues former employer

A lawsuit, on behalf of a former Oconee Memorial doctor, was entered today in the Common Pleas Court, alleging employment discrimination. The court filing shows the lawsuit was filed on behalf of Dr. Jennifer Mihalik, a general surgeon, and claims that Prisma Health “terminated her contract and employment without cause in retaliation for various complaints Plaintiff had made to Defendant about unlawful conduct in the workplace and in retaliation for Plaintiff engaging in legally protected activity.” Under causes of action, the lawsuit lists, among others, allegations of the Civil Rights Act, breach of contract, and whistleblower retaliation. Attached to the lawsuit is a case exhibit showing Mihalik contacted both the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission and the U-S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. 101.7/WGOG NEWS sent an email to a public information officer of Prisma seeking comment on the lawsuit. Prisma is the healthcare organization of which Oconee Memorial is a member.
