Distinction for Career Center student from Seneca High

A junior at Seneca High and DECA member at the Hamilton Career and Technology Center, Ryan Thomas, received fifth place out of 618 teams in the Southern region and 22nd in the country out of more than 4,700 teams during the DECA Stock Market Game.  Ryan and fellow DECA members were challenged with developing and managing a virtual investment of portfolio stocks, bonds and mutual funds, with the aim to increase the value of their portfolio, while maintaining its diversity.  In April, the top 25 teams in each region qualify to present their portfolio during this year’s DECA Virtual International Career Development Conference.  To what does Ryan Thomas attribute his success?  The answer is to “be financially independent one day.”  DECA’s online events provide opportunities for students to take part in online simulations to learn how to invest in the stock market, manage personal finances, or operate a business venture.
