Diabetes and personal health fair in Salem

Salem Lions Club is joining others next week to help combat the hidden killer called diabetes. The Lions Club, with help from the town of Salem and the Clemson University Nursing Program, will conduct a one-day diabetes and health fair. For a period of three and a half hours Tuesday, you can be tested without charge for blood sugar, blood pressure, as well as receive counseling for diet and help to stop smoking. All of this and more will be offered from 3 to 6:30 pm at the Salem Community Center at 3 Park Avenue. The location especially important for people who live in the Salem area and other parts of northern Oconee County, where there are no doctors. Jeff Wolfe of the Lions Club says for many who live there, a trip to a doctor’s office can take 20 to 30 minutes.
