DHEC to decide Lake Keowee boat slip request

South Carolina DHEC will decide whether to permit 56 boat slips in the Hunnicutt Cove of Lake Keowee in front of the new home development Timber Bay. Three DHEC representatives were told last night that at least some of those who bought Timber Bay lots were under the impression their deal included boat slips, but a large turnout of Timber Bay neighbors say more boat traffic, especially in a narrow cove of the lake, carries the potential for safety problems. Those expressions aside, some Timber Bay neighbors during last night’s hearing expressed the hope that a compromise can be reached, perhaps, reducing the number of boat slips and the size of the ramp that would extend from the shore across the cove. A Timber Bay lot owner made this appeal: “Please, think about us that have spent that money (the cost of their lots) and do want to be your neighbors and do want to play on the lake with you.”
