“Dewater” the power tunnel

The federal government approves of Duke Energy’s plan for checking the condition of its Keowee Dam.  “FERC”—the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission—reviewed Duke’s plan to de-water the power tunnel of the Keowee Dam.  Two days of what’s called routine maintenance are to start Tuesday, July 20.  Typically, such a de-watering process allows divers to inspect parts of a dam that sit on a riverbed and where the structure meets the shoreline.
