Development loan to benefit Oconee

Santee Cooper, the South Carolina Public Service Authority, has approved a $3 million loan to the Oconee Economic Alliance for a 50,000 thousand square foot building to help Oconee attract new business and jobs. The loan was approved through the Santee Cooper economic Development Loan Program. The spec building is to go inside the Golden Corner Commerce Park on highway 59, two miles from I-85 and 60 miles from the Greer Inland Port. In connection with the project, Richard Blackwell of the Economic Alliance said today that 22 acres there have been officially transferred by the county to the alliance, the public-private group that serves as the county’s official recruiter of economic development. According to Blackwell, next will be putting the building to bid, the actual construction, and then selling it to a customer.
