DENNIS “NICK” “HUMP” HERMAN NICHOLS

Walhalla SC– Dennis “Nick” “Hump” Herman Nichols, a dedicated military veteran who served his county with unwavering courage and commitment, passed away on July 11, 2023. He was born October 19, 1931, in Walhalla, SC to his loving parents, Annie Belle Collins and Audie Nichols.

 

Nick was the beloved husband of Janet Nichols, with whom he shared 46 years of cherished memories and a bond that grew stronger with each passing day. He leaves behind his children: Sandra Thompson (Phil) of Dalton, GA, Cathy Addis (Jerry) of West Union, SC, and Reggie Miller (Carol) of Havana, FL.

 

Nick’s role as a grandfather brought him immeasurable joy. He adored his grandchildren: Matthew Stone (Casey), Brent Stone, William Thompson, and Jayden Addis; as well as special family members: Stevie and Brock Holland, as well as Sandy and Annie Moore. They were the light of his life and he will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

 

During his life, Nick served his country and retired as a member of the United States Air Force. He also retired from Sangamo in West Union. He had a passion for traveling, family, and gardening.

 

A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Davenport Funeral Home.

 

A service to celebrate the remarkable life of Dennis “Nick” “Hump” Herman Nichols will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Davenport Funeral Home with burial to follow at Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Lakemont, GA.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that any donations be made in Nick’s name to Walhalla Baptist Church Building Fund, Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund (Lakemont, GA), or Hospice of the Foothills.

 

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and strength to all those who mourn his loss.
