Defendant drops lawyer, advised to find another

A man awaiting trial on burglary and criminal sexual conduct charges in the Oconee General Sessions Court was allowed today to dismiss his attorney and given 30 days to find another. However, Traiseth Vergie Williams told Judge Maddox he would like to represent himself when trial takes place. Maddox urged Williams to hire an attorney, but Williams says he has thought that over and would instead like to make his own defense. The defendant was arrested after an alleged incident two years ago at a Clemson student apartment complex in Oconee County. Although the case is subject to being called for trial in 30 days, Williams asked the judge for permission to attend the national collegiate football championship game in New Orleans January 13, but Maddox said he should retain an attorney and have the attorney file a motion for permission.
