Death takes commission leader

Members of the Pendleton District Commission, serving the tri-county area, are learning of the death of their chairman, Dr. Bill Steirer. He died yesterday, leaving his wife, Ada Lou, two children, and their families. For more than 20 years, William Steirer Jr. served as a commissioner representing Pickens County on the Pendleton District Historical, Recreational, and Tourism Commission. He had the distinction of being the only commissioner to have served two separate terms. Vicki Fletcher, commission executive director, said, “Dr. Steirer could always be counted on to support the work of the Commission, encourage its staff, and challenge us to greater achievements.”
