Crooner takes up Lake Keowee perch

A professional singer who keeps alive many of the classic hits from the Great American Songbook in recent years has taken up residence on Lake Keowee and looks forward to sharing his musical prowess in charity events throughout greater Oconee.  An example will be when Steve Vecchi presents “Frank Sinatra & Friends” Saturday, April 9 at the Walhalla Center for the Performing Arts.  All proceeds will go to the Foothills YMCA which is raising money for future expansion phases.  Vecchi sings classic hits made famous by the likes of Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Andy Williams and Bobby Darin.  Tickets are available thru the Center for the Performing Arts.  Vecchi credits the advice given him by Tony Bennett of the importance to keep alive popular songs, many of which preceded the British Invasion in the 1960s and yet to many of their fans remain timeless even today in the 21st century.  There are some ironies in the life path that took Vecchi from growing up near Lake Superior and eventually relocating to Lake Keowee.  He’s a small town Midwest native from Hibbing, Minnesota—the birthplace of singers Bob Dylan and Gary Puckett as well as notable individuals in other fields such as basketball’s Kevin McHale.
