Cries heard for road work to enhance safety

In at least two meetings of local leaders last week, pleas were voiced to make road improvements for the sake of public safety and convenience.  Oconee County Council members continue to worry about increasing danger on two-lane 130 between Seneca and the lake communities and on busy four-lane 123 between Seneca and Clemson.  One councilman called for a meeting with the local DOT to see what can be done.  There’s continued concern in Fair Play where some residents are worried about additional traffic that a new gas station will create on I-85.  “Please put pressure on anybody who wants to build here to help with the funding for whatever costs to fix the roads, to get them up to the level they will be safe and able to handle the level of traffic that’s coming off the interstate,” was the plea made by Laura Barnes of Fair Play to a meeting of the county planning commission.  Of late, there has been increasing chatter among Oconee County leaders for impact fees to be paid by developers.
