COVID numbers pile up in the latest surge

For most of last week and into this past weekend, new confirmed cases of COVID-19 are consistently 1,000-plus in South Carolina, traced to the surge created by the Delta variant.  For the last, full-day of counts (Saturday), the new case number was 1,794 across the state, including 26 in Oconee County.  Statewide deaths were four reported Thursday, two reported Friday, and one reported Saturday.  Thursday’s four included one Oconee County resident.  Of 15,706 test results received Saturday, the positivity was 15.1%.
