COVID numbers “appear in right direction”

A contrast is drawn between the last couple of weeks in August and the first three in September to conclude a downward movement in COVID-19 numbers, as gauged by Oconee’s superintendent of education.  Dr. Michael Thorsland last night told the county trustees the numbers appear to be headed the right way and, it’s hoped, that if this trend holds, the Oconee School District will be able to enjoy a close to normal year which could include restoring field trips and visits to the schools.  That’s all in the estimation of Thorsland, who addressed the trustees during their regular September meeting.  In the public comment session, a handful of Oconeeans pressed the trustees to hold to their decision to keep mask wearing voluntary and to allow students to benefit from the social and physical aspects that in-class instruction allows.
