COVID-19 rental assistance

Emergency housing assistance is available to South Carolinians facing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 crisis.  The assistance is being provided by SC Thrive in the amount of $1,500 for rent in a one-time lump sum payment directly to property owners or management companies.  Those who can qualify include those affected by shutdowns, closures, layoffs, reduced work hours, or unpaid leave.  Requirements include household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income for the county in which they live.  They must be a minimum of one month past due on rent.  Ineligible for the payment are those who get subsidized rental assistance.  The rental assistance is made possible by SC Thrive, in cooperation with the state Housing Finance and Development Authority.
