County park left in awkward spot

Having to close all facilities, an Oconee County park manager admits that his park and staff are placed in a situation completely opposite of why they are in the business.  And that is, being unable to welcome visitors to the county’s South Cove Park, one of the jewels of Oconee’s parks and recreation programs.  Stephen Schutt, park superintendent, spoke today with JoAnn Johnson of the chamber of commerce in another in a series “What’s the Buzz” informational online programs distributed by the chamber as the world remains gripped by a spreading virus.  “Parks are meant to be visited and it’s definitely different for us,” Schutt said.  He and the South Cove staff can’t wait for the virus to pass so that the park on Lake Keowee can again welcome visitors.
