Councilman claims “insurrection” afoot

A conservative member of Oconee County Council, Glenn Hart, is spreading word of what he sees as an insurrection in the making.  Hart is quoting an “informer” as saying that individuals unhappy with the ousting of the county Republican Party leadership last year are planning a meeting tomorrow night in Pickens County.  According to Hart, those behind the meeting are interested in seeing if the election of David McMahan as the replacement party chairman can be overturned.  Hart’s council colleague, Julian Davis, says he’s not part of the group.  In a statement, Davis said, “I was made aware of a meeting by some people and that’s the extent.  David (McMahan) was elected by the precincts to lead the Republican Party and I respect the outcome of the election just as he should the outcome of my election.  We have enough destruction going on in our country without trying to destruct this county.  I’ll be coaching a soccer team Friday night then eating with my family.  That is my Friday night plans.”
