Council united on right-to-life declaration

Oconee County is now a right-to-life county after a new resolution declaring such received the support of all five county councilmen—even though there were competing emotions from last night’s meeting audience between those on the sides of pro-life and pro-choice.  Earlier this year a separate resolution to make the county a sanctuary for the unborn failed by one vote, with one councilman accusing another of grandstanding.  Last night Councilman Hart suggested that political considerations among some his colleagues could be in play.  The council 5-0 vote to pass the resolution came following another spirited public comment session, preceded by an admonition to the crowd to keep proper decorum.  Among those who registered contrasting views were the chairpersons of the county’s Democratic and Republican parties.
