Cost-sharing to fix flood-prone intersection

A cost projection to eliminate a flood-prone Walhalla intersection came in below estimates, and the city council last night added $110 thousand dollars to its budget. City funds and those allocated by the state’s county “C” fund committee will be used to pay the contractor selected to correct the drainage problem at College and S. Broad streets. Thrift Development of Seneca submitted the lowest of three contractor bids, in the amount of $201.5 thousand dollars. City Administrator Brent Taylor says the project is to start in January and take four months. When a councilman asked if a detour will be required, Taylor paused and answered, “Maybe.”
