Consultant to aid Seneca to qualify for federal tornado dollars

Seneca will use a Greenville company to help qualify for millions of dollars in reimbursement costs from the April 13 tornado.  And it’s the same company that Oconee County has contracted.  City Council last night agreed to contract with Goodwyn, Mills and Caywood.  A second company, from Arkansas was interested, but Councilwoman Denise Rozman said she was more comfortable knowing that the work will be done by a staff whose office in Greenville is closer.  City Administrator Scott Moulder told the mayor and council that “FEMA” is a stickler for detail and will require GPS proof of every utility pole and transformer that had to be replaced when the EF3 tornado blew through the city.  After last night’s meeting, Moulder told reporters that the tornado costs to city government, originally estimated as much as $10 million dollars, now looks to be about $6 million.  And of the $6 million spent, Moulder hopes the city can qualify for federal reimbursements of between $4.5 and $5 million.
