Construction work ahead at Oconee Memorial

The Prisma Health campus of Oconee Memorial Hospital will break ground in April or May for a Center of Family Medicine adjoining the Cancers Center on the hospital grounds. Hunter Kome, chief operating officer for Oconee Memorial, told the hospital’s Holdings Board last night that the location is the ground where the Hospital Foundation has staged fundraising golf ball drops. The family medicine facility is to be home for 24 doctors. Kome also announced that, by the end of the year, the hospital will start construction on the addition of 13, 500 square feet to its emergency department. By adding 22 beds, the result will be the conversion of a small emergency room into a medium-sized room better equipped to handle around 40 thousand patients a year. And he said it will have a “fast-track” feature that will better separate true emergency patients from non-emergency patients.
