Constance Carpenter Lawrence

Constance Carpenter Lawrence, age 79, of Salem, SC wife of 57 years to Thomas Edward Lawrence passes away on Friday, February 11, 20221 at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital. Born October 26, 1942, in Melrose, MA, she grew up in a traditional loving family and was the daughter of the late Rev. Lewis Bennett Carpenter, a Methodist minister and Charlotte Louise (Heaton) Carpenter.

Mrs. Lawrence met her husband Thomas Edward Lawrence at Hanover College during her freshman year, and they married shortly after she graduated with her Bachelor of Political Science, she continued her education by obtaining her Master of Library Science from Butler University. She was employed for 30 years as a Media Specialist within the Lawrence Township Schools in Indianapolis, IN during which time she was awarded teacher of the year at Amy Beverland Elementary School. During her tenure she had the opportunity to begin her career in a small Catholic school, and ending her career in an 1,000 student grade school, where she was tasked with creating a 15,000-volume library collection.

Mrs. Lawrence was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother who was proud of her family, she showed her love and appreciation towards her family through her hobby of scrapbooking. Her photos went through her life to tell the history and story of her family, her many projects include books for her sons and continuing for all her grandchildren.

She was a true political junkie, and avid news follower, she loved her Country, flag, and was patriotic to the core. She loved all her pets and truly adored her Labrador retriever Colt, and Golden Retriever Madison. She was proud to have raised $25, 000 for Keowee Key Dog Park, where she continued to meet friends daily at 11:00 AM for several years.

She enjoyed singing in the choirs in high school, college community, and at Ft. Hill Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Lawrence is survived by her husband as well as two sons Steven Lawrence of Westerville, OH and Andrew (Peggy) Lawrence of Canton, GA. Five grandchildren Kelly and Eric Lawrence of Westerville, OH., Tom, Elizabeth, and AJ Lawrence of Canton, GA. Brother Kenneth (Ellen) Carpenter of Schenectady, NY, sister Carol (Tom) Seitzinger of Rochester, NY, and sister-in-law Margaret Lawrence of Carmel, IN., as well a host of much-loved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Mrs. Lawrence’s life will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 2:00 PM from the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church located at 101 Edgewood Avenue Clemson, SC 29631. The family will receive friends briefly, following the service.

The family is at their respective homes, in lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made on behalf of Mrs. Lawrence to the Oconee County Humane Society P.O. Box 966 West Union, SC 29696.
