Concentrated effort envisioned for equity, diversion

Members of a new Seneca task force are at the forefront of an effort to bring improved equity, diversity and inclusion to their city.  Seneca’s elected leaders last night welcomed a presentation by Dr. Ivy Ellerby and Carla Gomez, and by their side was the city administrator, Scott Moulder.  The task force plans at least three festivals in 2021, including an observance of Juneteenth, a day when African- Americans commemorate emancipation from slavery.  Administrator Moulder is highly complementary of the work so far by the task force and especially of both Gomez and Ellerby.  Each, he says, is showing commitment to their city by starting new businesses.  Ellerby is in position to know about inclusion and diversity.  Her late uncle, Theodore Davis, was one of the city’s first African-American policemen and later the city’s first and only chief of police.  She sees observances such as Juneteenth, youth days, and Hispanic heritage important, but she indicated much needs to be done to rid the community of “systemic issues.”
