Computer hacked, attempt made to bilk the victim

The hacking of a computer demonstrates the need for tech users to be wary of the criminals who try to prey on them, according to Oconee Sheriff’s Office.  County deputies learned of a scam in which a hacker apparently gained remote access to a computer, on which a window popped up with a number to tech support.  After calling that number, however, the computer owner provided credit and debit card information and was instructed to withdraw $15 thousand from his account and re-deposit it to an ATM.  Fortunately, the victim went to his financial institution, and his banker cancelled all of his cards and found out that no transaction had taken place.
