College returning, what about the public schools?

Southern Wesleyan University at Central announced its revised fall 2020 schedule today, with a planned full semester of in-person instruction starting on Monday, Aug. 17.

Students will complete the semester and all semester exams by Tuesday, Nov. 24, before leaving for Thanksgiving break. This is two weeks earlier than originally scheduled.

“We cannot wait to have our students back on campus for face-to-face courses this Fall!” said Dr. April White-Pugh, university provost. “We know that this semester will look a little different, but we are working hard to put measures in place to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff when they return.”

The University has already resumed onsite individual admissions appointments and campus tours.

However, the university is also developing contingency plans should federal or state guidelines related to the pandemic change.

In a meeting next week at Walhalla some–perhaps not all–questions will be answered about whether the county public schools may resume classes in the fall, when, and under what conditions.  Steve Hanvey, associate superintendent, today said, about the school calendar items on the board of trustees agenda Monday:  “Just going to discuss scenarios.  Still waiting on guidance from the state.”
