Clemson students analyze decades of climate data

An associate professor of civil engineering at Clemson University, Ashok Mishra, is helping the world predict how the changing climate will affect global water supplies.  Mishra sees Earth Day as a reminder that the globe should prepare for weather changes already underway. Extreme weather, of late, includes the historic flooding of 2015 and 2018 in South Carolina and last year’s wildfires, extreme heat and flooding in Australia.  As part of their research, Mishra and his students analyze decades of climate data, including precipitation and temperature records.  The team found that climate change causes the wet season to get wetter and the dry season to get drier in many parts of the world.  That complicates efforts to manage reservoirs and irrigate crops.
