Clemson notches it first Rhodes Scholar

A Clemson senior from Spartanburg, Louise Franke, became the university’s first student yesterday to be named a Rhodes Scholar.  Clemson is celebrating her achievement as historic for the university.  An Honors College student majoring in bio-chemistry with minors in political science and philosophy, Franke is one of 32 American Rhodes Scholars selected through an intensive application and interview process.  The Rhodes Scholarship provides for studies at the University of Oxford in England and is recognized as the top undergraduate award for college students.  Franke’s goal is to someday practice as a doctor while forging a career in the public policy and academic fields.  Clemson has had six Rhodes finalists since 2006, including two this year.  Franke is the first to be named a Rhodes Scholar.
