Clemson looks to Anderson to expand
The city of Clemson has its eyes on a parcel of Anderson County property for future use as an additional park and recreation area. The city planning commission has announced an April 5 public hearing to consider a petition to annex 66 acres of unincorporated Anderson County property. The proposed zoning is R-20 single-family residential and is contiguous with existing limits. Clemson, a municipality in Pickens County, tried three years ago to annex the Oconee County property of Lakeside Lodge, but backed off after a number of Oconee leaders and residents protested, some of them still displeased by the annexation of Clemson University from Oconee County into Pickens in the late 1960s.
