Clemson Extension worker charged with embezzlement

The state police have arrested a Clemson Extension Service worker in Williamsburg County on the charge of embezzlement. “SLED” agents on Friday arrested Florence resident Jacob Stokes in an investigation of $1,400 in class registration fees allegedly converted by him to his own use. The state police investigation was requested by the Clemson campus police. An arrest warrant alleges the 36-year old Stokes on March 16, 2018 collected $100 dollars from each of 14 people during a pesticide applicator course. “After receiving the funds,” the warrant alleges, “Stokes did not transfer the funds to Clemson Extension, a division of Clemson University….” Stokes was jailed in Williamsburg County and faces prosecution by the Third Solicitor’s Office.
