Clemson drinking water discolored

The city of Clemson is experiencing an increase in discoloration, turbidity, in its drinking water.  And it is prevalent all the way along the highway 76 transmission line leading to the city, the university, Town of Pendleton, and the Sandy Springs Water District.  According to the city of Anderson’s utilities director, Anderson is experiencing the same discoloration issues in its system.  The Anderson Regional Joint Water System today is flushing the lines feeding the providers.  And Clemson is flushing its system, but the water coming in from the ARJWS, by 11 this morning, was still discolored.  According to Clemson’s announcement:  “We expect the water quality to improve within 24 hours.  The City of Clemson will continue flushing water lines in Clemson until the problem is resolved.”  They are relying on a powdered activated carbon system installed at the treatment plant last week that should allow noticeable improvement within the next week.  Scott Willett, ARJWS exectuive director, said, “We apologize for the inconvenience and please bear with us while this problem is resolved.”   If you have questions concerning this press release, call the city of Clemson Utilities Department at 864/653-2046 during normal business hours or the police department at 864/624-2000 after normal business hours.
