Civil trial to start at the Oconee Courthouse

A jury is in place for the start of an Oconee civil court trial to settle the dispute over a car accident nearly four years ago in Walhalla. The plaintiff in the case is an Oconee County resident, Mahlon Young Meredith; the defendant is the County of Pickens. The lawsuit filed seeks damages and alleges that a Pickens deputy sheriff was driving a 2001 Ford that failed to stop and/or yield right-of-way to a 2001 Pontiac driven by Meredith. The lawsuit claims that in the accident at Church and WS Broad streets, Meredith sustained severe and painful injuries.
