Church ready with baseball bat to greet intruder

Oconee Sheriff’s Office has declared no immediate danger faces any church as the result of a social media post from last week. The Sheriff’s Office announced yesterday: “The individual who made social media threats toward nonspecific churches was located and interviewed extensively by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. All agencies agreed after studying the social media post that it did not rise to the level of criminal prosecution. There is no immediate danger to any church by this individual or his associates that has been uncovered.” Still law enforcement wants churches to prepare for the potential that someone some time might try to disrupt their services or other activities. And at least one Walhalla church has taken the warning seriously. One of its members told us that, for Wednesday night service this week, the service was conducted with the doors locked. If an intruder had made his or her way inside, that individual would have been greeted by a baseball bat-wielding reception.
