Cheryl Lee is imbued with the “Spirit of Democracy”

An Oconee high school graduate who went on to teach in neighboring Pickens County was honored this year with a Spirit of Democracy award given during the annual meeting of the League of Women Voters.  Over several years,  Cheryl Myers Lee displayed a passion for registering voters and chaired the league’s Voter Service.  She organized voter drives at high schools in the tri-counties that availed seniors turning 18 of the chance to register to vote.  Lee also wrote grants for enhancing the public vote and sent postcard reminders of dates when elections took place.
