Charlie Vissage is Firefighter of the Year

A multi-talented Walhalla firefighter was an award winner during an appreciation dinner last night at a Lake Keowee restaurant. Charlie Vissage received Firefighter of the Year during the first Oconee Municipal Public Safety Appreciation Dinner. A 16-year member of the Walhalla Fire Department, Vissage has shown leadership qualities in training recruits. He, along with another off-duty firefighter, was instrumental in a life-saving rescue two years ago at the Wagener Circle apartments. Vissage also serves as chief of the Mountain Rest Volunteer Fire Department.  Chris McGaha of the Salem Fire Department also received a firefighter award.
