Charles Edward “Ed” Shuford Jr.

Salem- Charles Edward ‘Ed’ Shuford, Jr., 75, devoted husband of Cheryll Tuttle Shuford, of 11 Mizzen Lane, Salem, SC, passed away on Thursday, August 12th, 2021 at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born July 1, 1946 in Fredericksburg, Virginia and was the son of Charles Edward Shuford, Sr. and Margaret Houck Shuford. He came from humble beginnings to receive a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University. Ed had a distinguished 34 year career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, advancing to the Senior Executive Service level in the Southwestern Division. He then served another 10 years as the Director of Project Management at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.  Ed was a United States Army veteran and a long standing member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church of Wilmington, NC.  He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with his pets, and traveling the country.  Ed cared deeply for others and had an amazing way of bringing people together.  His infectious smile and quick wit will be remembered fondly by all.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Cheryll Shuford; daughters, Pamela Thompson (Rodney) of Salem, SC, Jennifer Lucas (Michael) of Wilmington, NC; son Kevin Shuford (Anna) of Woodway, TX; brother, Robert ‘Bob’ Shuford (Terri); sister, Patricia Rowsey (Al); grandchildren Jena Hough (Josh), Ryan Manore, Sara Manore, Austin Lucas, Alex Lucas, Nolan Shuford, Olivia Shuford and Emery Shuford; great-grandchildren, Thompson Hough and Easton Hough.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
