Charges pending against Easley man

Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says a short foot chase was required near the scene of last night’s fatal crash before officers placed their suspect into custody. Crenshaw identifies the man as 19-year old Easley resident El Asia Hassain Muhammed. Crenshaw said, “We will be meeting with the Solicitor this morning to review the case for further charges.” Authorities say a vehicle drove straight through a highway patrol checkpoint around 11:30 last night, a chase ensued, and the fleeing vehicle crashed into the basement level of a home at the T-intersection at Wells Highway and 123 between Seneca and Clemson. The checkpoint had been established at Wells Highway and the Owens Road. Killed inside the home was Vanessa Leanne Neimeyer. The 39-year old woman lived there with her mother and grandparents. Coroner Karl Addis said the fleeing vehicle landed on top of Neimeyer in the basement.
