Changes within city hall

In a rare Wednesday night meeting, the Westminster City Council approved a number of personnel changes.  What’s left of the council accepted the resignations from the council of Brad Chastain and Danny Duncan and informed that Rusty Cater’s resignation is timed for January 31.  Further, in the figuring given by the city attorney, Westminster voters will be asked to go to the polls to fill the unexpired council seats in a springtime special election.  An attendee at last night’s meeting, the Rev. Audrey Reese, confirmed to 101.7/WGOG NEWS she will offer for one of the seats. The council elevated city hall worker Rebecca Overton to the job of clerk-treasurer.  The longtime clerk-treasurer Jennifer Adams will move into the new position of administrative assistant to the city’s director of utilities.  In another change Kevin Bronson, city administrator, announced that as the result of a phone call to him from the attorney for the Joint Regional Sewer Authority, a residency requirement forces Bronson to resign as a Westminster representative to the JRSA.  Bronson, a Pickens County resident, learned that to serve on the JRSA board members must live in Oconee County. Just last week Bronson was elected board chairman. This development leads to speculation that Walhalla’s Scott Parris, the vice-chairman, will return as chairman, a position he held before Seneca’s Scott Moulder succeeded him.
