Chairman likely will call for a vote July 20

How the next school year unfolds in Oconee County likely will be decided in a vote by the board of trustees on the night of Monday, July 20.  The July 20 meeting is the only scheduled meeting of the month.  And Jerry Lee, the chairman, indicates that’ll be the night he will entertain a motion, based on recommendations of the administration and a task force.  What’s becoming clear over recent days is the potential that the school district will build the 2020-21 academic year with a combination of two options.  For parents who wish to have their children back in the classrooms could be one of the options.  Parents not comfortable with that option likely would have the option to continue their children in distance learning.  Like Dr. Thorsland, the district superintendent, Chairman Lee is not high on the possibility of a regular fall season of high school sports.  However, Lee concedes much of the consideration there will be decided by the governance board of South Carolina high school athletics—the High School League.
