Westminster car break-ins

The police in Westminster placed a young man in investigative detention as they responded on Friday to at least three car-breaks on Gaston Circle. The police report that items stolen in the break-ins included a camera, a GPS device, coins, a flashlight, a pocket knife, and a pack of cigarettes. Some of the stolen items have been recovered.

College scholarships

The Oconee County Class of 2012 earned $18.2 million in college scholarships. The number represents two-year scholarship values for technical colleges and two-year schools, and four-year totals for four-year colleges and universities. Since the state began tracking the information, the collective statewide 2012 class was the first group to earn more than $1 billion worth of college scholarships.

The U-S Attorney has announced that a former state trooper, living in Seneca, will be headed to prison. According to U-S Attorney Bill Nettles, Randy L. The jury in General Sessions Court today returned a quick verdict against Curtis Eugene Land of Brown Street, Seneca arrested in September 2011 and charged with burglarizing a home in Oakway.
