Tourism will be the focus for a meeting next week of the Oconee Municipal Association. Ken Sloan, executive director of the Mountain Lakes CVB, will speak to a meeting of the county’s municipal leaders. Walhalla Mayor Danny Edwards says that meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, August 27 at the Walhalla Depot.

The Westminster Police Department is releasing details of the apprehension of a young man in a case of car break-ins in a residential area of the city. Mike Crenshaw, interim chief, said his officers were called Friday morning to homes on Gaston Circle and charged Joshua Merrill Nix, 21, of Horseshoe Lane, Walhalla with larceny and breaking into motor vehicle.

The agenda is set for tomorrow’s 5:30 p.m. meeting of the Westminster City council at the Depot. Business includes supplemental liability insurance and changes to the animal and hospitality tax ordinances. Meetings tonight include Oconee School Board and the Oconee Planning Commission. The police in Westminster placed a young man in investigative detention as they responded on Friday to at least three car-breaks on Gaston Circle. The police report that items stolen in the break-ins included a camera, a GPS device, coins, a flashlight, a pocket knife, and a pack of cigarettes. Some of the stolen items have been recovered.
